Jennifer Matthews (accompanist, The Atlantic Boychoir)
Dr. Jennifer Matthews is a vocal and piano pedagogue, collaborative pianist, and conductor. Jennifer worked at the Mannes School of Music and City Opera of New York as accompanist and répétiteur and at Hunter College, City University of New York as lecturer and assistant conductor of Hunter Opera Theater and Hunter Choirs. She concluded her formal education by earning a Doctorate in Music Performance in opera studies and conducting from McGill University; also working as assistant conductor for Opera McGill. She returned to Hunter College and later spent the summer months at the Amalfi Coast Music Festival and Institute as vocal coach and répétiteur.
Dr. Matthews returned to Corner Brook where she has a large piano and vocal studio and formed the Bay of Islands Musical Arts Incorporated which features a mixed choir, and senior and junior youth choirs, The Bay of Island Musical Arts Chorus has performed with Marc David and the Newfoundland Symphony and looks forward to another production of BIMA’s annual Messiah in December. BIMA opera was thrilled to present a fully-staged production of Puccini’s Suor Angelica as their inaugural opera featuring all choirs and guest artists. Jennifer has also been music director for the musicals presented by the Stage West Festival for the last three years and also made her third appearance with Winter Tide Festival as pianist and Choral conductor. She also just completed a term as Musical Director at the Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Corner Brook. Dr. Matthews was thrilled to become the official accompanist for the Atlantic Boychoir in 2016 and is looking forward to its many exciting artistic endeavours planned in the upcoming year.
